____ How To Have Good Sex! |
Semen
leak & pregnancy Ask
Erika, Dear
Thanx, Yes,
it is normal for your boyfriend's penis to emit fluid before ejaculation.
This is called "pre-ejaculatory fluid" and consists of a small amount
of fluid (usually a few drops) that come from the penis during sexual activity.
The fluid comes from a part of the male's body called the Cowper's glands.
Pre-ejaculatory fluid, sometimes also called "pre-cum," may contain
sperm that were left in the urethra (the tube that urine and ejaculate pass
through) from the last ejaculation. Thus, it is important to put a condom
on before the penis comes into contact with the vagina (or to avoid contact).
The
risk of pregnancy is probably fairly low if your underwear were on and your
boyfriend did not ejaculate. It may be slightly higher if he did ejaculate
on or near your vaginal opening, particularly if your vagina produced a lot of
lubrication. However, pregnancies have occurred without actual intercourse
and, if you are concerned about pregnancy, it suggests that you may want to take
further precautions. You could (1) refrain from activities where his penis
is near your vaginal opening and is unprotected or (2) use a condom if you know
his penis will get close to (or enter) your vagina or (3) consider starting a
birth control method such as pills. This way you will have more protection
and less worries. Talking these decisions and issues through with your
partner BEFORE you start fooling around is a good idea. That way you will
be able to make rational choices when you are not in the "heat of the
moment." If you set limits in advance and both agree to them, it can
be easier to stick to them when you are in the middle of sex play. Finally,
if you are really concerned about an unintended pregnancy, you may want to
consider emergency contraception (EC). The most commonly used form of EC
is a higher dose of birth control pills.
Taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse (or sperm getting into
the vagina via close contact), EC can be effective in preventing pregnancy.
Call 1-888-NOT-2-LATE to get more information about EC and to get the names of
several health care providers in your area who will prescribe EC. You can
also get EC from a local Planned Parenthood clinic. Good luck and
thank you again for your questions, |
